When North America’s oldest Thoroughbred auction company, Fasig-Tipton, was looking to make its website more dynamic and timely, Evasiv was the chosen developer. Over the last six months a new sales results database was designed and a new sale results import process was built. The sale results section of the website is now updated automatically in near-real-time. Sale results are now sortable, constantly updated via AJAX without having to refresh the page, include a printer friendly version, and are able to be exported to CSV. Hip numbers are linked to PDF catalog pages, and a new search feature allows sale results to be searched by sire, dam, consignor or buyer.
In addition to a new sales results database and import process functionality, a new mobile website was created as well. Mobile.fasigtipton.com includes sale results, outs, updates and a calendar. It was optimized for Blackberry, iPhone and Windows Mobile devices.
For the Kentucky Selected November Mixed sale a Flash-based virtual sales catalogue was created by converting the PDF sales catalogue into a Flash application. It included page turning effects, search, video player to play race videos and links to printer friendly PDF past performances and PDF catalog pages.
Fasig-Tipton Racing Club (FTRC) was created as a new way to introduce people to the world of Thoroughbred horse racing through the lease and syndication of currently-competing horses, and Evasiv was selected to create the new site. FTRC required a website that could be easily updated, and it needed to integrate with The Jockey Club to continually pull upcoming races and race results data for the horses that the club leases.
ExpressionEngine (EE) was chosen as the content management system for the website. EE has the flexibility to easily model FTRC complex site structure and includes the functionality used for the membership authentication for the secure sections of the website. EE allows FTRC to have control of the website content, to easily make updates and to keep the member access current. In order to integrate with The Jockey Club, a new database was designed to hold the upcoming races and race results data. A process was created to pull data from a Jockey Club web service and store the data in the newly-designed database. A custom ExpressionEngine plugin was written to pull the upcoming race and race result data from the custom database allowing upcoming races and race result data to easily be displayed as part of the content stored in ExpressionEngine. The result is a very flexible, easily-updated and data-rich website. By leveraging ExpressionEngine the website was able to be built in under 90 days.
